Carol Bradley is an American who now lives and works in Italy.
Qualifications: Laurea (Italian Doctorate), MEd (International Education), MA (Art History and Studio Art). Other courses in linguistics and in the Online Teaching Program (UCLA extension). Nationality: American Profession: EFL teacher, writer, researcher. Hobbies: Art, music, photography, swimming, sailing, tennis, yoga, tai chi.
Carol began her teaching career in the Department of Art at Radford University, Virginia. She left her job to work on her PhD in the Florida State University study abroad program in Italy. That move also led to a change in careers. During the early years of her Italian stay, she completed her Italian Doctorate at the University of Florence, worked in American university art programs, and for the Italian government summer cultural program for Italian children living abroad. As her stay extended, she began teaching EFL at the University of Florence. She worked in the University Linguistic Center for more than twenty years teaching all levels and types of courses: general English - beginner to advanced, English for Special Purposes (architecture, agriculture, biology, engineering), reading in English, reading in computer science, TOEFL (preparation course for the test).
In addition to teaching, Carol is also a researcher and has published articles in English and Italian regarding art history, Italian emigration to the US, and problems related to teaching EFL. She has attended numerous EFL conferences, both as a presenter and as a participant. During her work as an EFL teacher, she has produced a number of videos for use in her ESP courses and has also designed and produced pilot projects for computer assisted language learning. She has taught EFL online, both hybrid (face-to-face and online) and totally online courses using Nicenet and Blackboard. Her long st ay in Italy has allowed her to become fluent in Italian; she can get by in Spanish and French, and has even tried learning Chinese (spoken and written).
Carol is very enthusiastic about online teaching and learning. But whether online or in the classroom, she believes that education is an ongoing, life-time adventure and that a mentors teaching skills are greatly enriched by each and every student that she meets. Her teaching goal is to assist her learners in satisfying their individual learning needs and to help each one of her students to become motivated, independent learners.
Currently, Carol is a freelance EFL teacher and writer. She now divides her living time between two continents: one foot is still planted in Italy where she continues to enjoy walking along the Arno and throughout the city of Florence; her other foot is dug deep in the white sand of her native Florida where she enjoys being out-of-doors in the summer heat. Her indoor activities include playing the piano and reading.
