ICAL TutorQualifications: RSA Dip, MA TESOL, PhD (Applied Linguistics)
Nationality: British
Profession: EFL instructor/ MA TESOL tutor/ translator
Hobbies: Being outdoors including gardening, camping, cycling, animals (currently with her cats, rabbits, hens and fish!) and as much travelling as 3 small kids allow! Plenty of reading, especially travel and historical literature.

Clare has been in EFL since 1985 and during her career has worked in Great Britain, Spain, Brazil and Germany.
She has had a varied career working as an EFL teacher, course designer, head of resources, teacher trainer and director of studies. She has worked on teacher training courses for both native and non-native speakers, designing courses and progress tests herself for both general and business English students in Brazil, Great Britain and Germany. Her experience includes students of all ages, from primary school children to courses especially designed for pensioners, and courses ranging from one-to-one teaching to 30 students in a group. As Director of Studies in a busy central London school she dealt with a wide range of students from the absolute beginner Arab struggling with the Roman alphabet to advanced level business executives wanting to brush up their presentation skills. She particularly enjoys teaching absolute beginner groups and is very interested in teaching methodology aimed at this level.

Clare is currently based in Germany where she is a tutor on a university distance MA (TESOL) programme in the UK, teaches EFL, and translates. On a small scale she also writes book reviews and works on intensive teacher training courses. She particularly enjoys this related but varied range of work and combines it with bringing up 3 small kids.

Living in Germany after some years back in the UK she enjoys working in a non-English speaking country. She is very interested in mother tongue influence on second language learning and she herself speaks German, Spanish, Portuguese, French (rusty!) and has even managed a basic course in Japanese!

In her spare time Clare is mostly outside checking on the animals or pottering in the garden. Renovating the house is a life long project so she is kept pretty busy with her various projects. Clare loves travelling and is a real South America fan always reading up on new places to visit when time and money allows!!
