Ellen has been in the foreign language and ESL teaching profession for over thirty years. After completing the TESOL MAT at the School for International Training (SIT), she taught French in a public middle school in Connecticut. Following that, she and her husband, Ron, who is in the same profession, lived in Tokyo, Japan for four years, teaching English to businessmen, children, housewives, and university and high school students. She also did some recording of language tapes for Japanese middle schools and participated in writing projects of self-study English language materials. Following her stay in Japan, she returned to the U.S., where she continued her career as an ESL professional at Western Illinois University in Macomb, Illinois. In addition to teaching, she also served as Curriculum Coordinator for the WESL Institute there, concentrating on English for Academic Purposes. Later, she and her husband owned and operated the Colorado International Education and Training Institute; there, Ellen was Academic Director, participating in curriculum design, textbook selection, teacher training, evaluation, and supervision, and conducting professional development workshops at various state and regional TESOL conferences. She also taught ESL and French at Mesa State College. In 2000, Ellen helped to successfully establish the International Education Center at Diablo Valley College in the Bay Area, again serving as Academic Director. Special duties included curriculum design and hiring and training new teachers. Ellen continues to live in the Bay Area.

Ellen particularly enjoys mentoring and training new teachers, using the SIT experiential philosophy and reflective practice. She also enjoys one-on-one as well as classroom instruction.

She has traveled extensively in Europe, as well as parts of Asia and Central America.
