Michelle García has lived in Spain since completing her doctorate in Education.
Qualifications: BA, BS, MS, Ed.D Age: 33 Nationality: American Profession: ESL Instructor, Translator Hobbies: Reading, writing, learning languages, travel (unfortunately, a very expensive hobby!)
Michelle has been working in the field of ESL since she was an undergraduate student at the University of Nebraska at Omaha. Originally trained as a Spanish and French teacher, she became involved with ESL through several volunteer teaching experiences in her community. She discovered that she loved working with international and immigrant students. She was eventually chosen to implement an ESL program in the large public high school where she worked. Michelle served as Department Head for this program for five years. During that time, she served on numerous committees, wrote ESL curriculum, taught teacher in-service sessions and conducted research. She continued to volunteer in her community as time permitted. These experiences taught her a lot, sometimes through “the school of hard knocks.”
After completing her doctorate in education, she moved to A Coruña, Spain. She currently lives there with her Spanish husband and their two (very) large cats. She spends her time teaching many different levels of ESL classes, translating, and writing both fiction and non-fiction. She speaks fluent Spanish, decent French, and makes valiant efforts at Galician.
When not working, Michelle loves taking both short and long trips. A Nebraska native, she loves (finally) living by the ocean, and can often be found walking on the beach.
