Catheryn Khoo divides her time between New Zealand, where she manages a language school and Malaysia, where she trains in the corporate sectors.
Qualifications: Med in Educational Psychology, Bed Hons. (TESL) Nationality: Malaysian Profession: Principal Trainer, Programme Director for an English Language Institution. Hobbies: Cycling, Running, Outdoor Adventure.
Catheryn's career in teaching and training began at a very young age when in 1993 she taught English to students in a boarding school. Ever since then, she has lectured in various institutions like Monash University Sunway Campus, Kolej Damansara Utama, Kolej Bandar Utama, Taylor's College Kuala Lumpur and The Language House, all in Malaysia. In 2000, she was elected a freelance Course Leader and Trainer by the Federation of Malaysian Manufacturer (FMM), a position she still holds. In 2002, she was nominated and chosen to manage the English Language Programme in the Graduate Training Scheme for the University of Malaya Centre of Continuing Education (UMCCED).
Her professional career includes giving talks and workshops to secondary school students in which she addressed the issues the English Language paper in public examinations. The Star, a leading national English newspaper, has invited Catheryn to brainstorm ideas on ways to improve the declining state of English Language in Malaysia. Her ideas were published in the paper along with her articles on Parents, Children & Reading. In addition, she has co-authored an English workbook under Sasbadi, a leading book publisher in Malaysia.
Catheryn is a member of the Malaysian English Language Teaching Association (MELTA) and has actively participated in its national and international conferences. In 2002, Catheryn was selected to be a presenter in its national conference.
Catheryn designs her own programmes and teaches courses for institutions and the corporate sectors. She has trained people from all walks of life. She is in demand for her practical training sessions that focus on immediate application, discussions and participation. Today, Catheryn manages a language school in New Zealand while returning to Malaysia very often for training in the corporate sectors.
When not working, Catheryn will be doing sports. She runs and cycles competitively and relishes the outdoor. She is either out on a 4x4 adventure in the woods or camping by the waterfall with friends and loved ones.
